Is the story based on Sujatha’s Novel ?
Many speculations has already surfaced about the story line of the movie and the latest one is that it is based on what the renowned Tamil writer Sujatha penned in a tamil weekly in two different parts a couple of decades ago.
Titled as Yen Iniya Iyanthira and Meendum Jeeno respectively the novel revolves around a Robot in the form of a dog. A stunning thriller-cum-science fiction, its not a surprise that the story impressed the Spielberg of India, Shankar, that he chose to do it as his dream project on the celluloid.
Shankar has suggested few changes like the form of the Robot being changed into a man-like model and two heroines instead of one as in the original. It is learnt that even Rajini has suggested some changes and Sujatha while agreeing with them, also in the process of tinkering the story line to suit to present trend (though the story happens on a futiristic date)
And another interesting update is that Manikandan is still in the race for the cameraman’s spot. It is interesting in the sense it was one of the key issues why SRK dropped the project since he felt that Mani was instrumental in the success of OSM, while Shankar had a sore relation after Anniyan. So a lot is happening behind the scenes as are the speculations and only time has to tell which is right.
Watch this space for further updates.

Didn’t Manikandan walked out of one of Shankar’s earlier movies? I think it was Boys. Anywho, in movies, just like in politics there are not permanent friends or permanent enemies.
I recall Sujatha’s ‘En Iniya Iyanthiraa’ was a big hit back then, especially when science fiction stories were a rare commodity. Despite the odds that story became a water-cooler conversation among the tamil speaking diaspora. It is interesting to see how Shankar adapts a ‘dog story’ to a movie going audience.
YOu are right…it was Boys and not Anniyan as mentioned. Mani didn’t come into Shankar’s groove and hence didn’t feel comfrotable when SRK demanded him to do the camera. But this time around, maybe Rajini had insisted on this in such case I don’t think Shankar had too much options.
But then, Rajini is not a kind of perso to demand the crew and therefore let us wait and see whether this is just a speculation or what…
Wrong..IT was anniyan..Ravi verman took over 40% of the camerawork..MAni was complaining that shanakr was taking to long to complete anniyan..He told in an interview(sify)..
Hmmm…looks like I’ve got carried a bit…
I stand corrected. It was the movie Anniyan out of which Manikandan walked out. Not Boys.
